Decorating the Halloween Tree

What? There's no tradition for decorating a Halloween tree? Well, there should be! Teri Calia has made an adorable one (that would lend itself to becoming an earring tree with a bit less drapey yarn "moss") built on a base that's adorable, too.

Starting with that base: it's a Mini Chest of Drawers with 9 tiny little 1-1/2" drawers. This is a kit to put together the Masonite chest (more like a bookshelf) and all 9 chipboard boxes. (Yes, you have to put it together yourself, but instructions are included and it's easy.) Teri covered the drawers and chest with papers from the Lost & Found Halloween Scrapbook Paper Collection. And Teri even lined each little drawer with purple velvet... ready to become a tiny jewelry box.

Next, the tree itself. Teri created the tree out of Black Millinery Wire then wrapped it in Fuzzy Black Fibers. Ah, millinery wire. We have a long history. Needless to say it is very useful stuff (and definitely not just for making hats). More details and photos are below.

Before I dive into all the new Halloween goodies (and even more art by Teri)... or remind you about Week 3 of Laura Carson's Pretty Potions and Poisons Apothecary Event, don't forget that today is the final day to sign up for the Cabinet Card Curiosities Swap!  Pretty Potions and Poisons Apothecary Event Week 3: Books, Coffins and Cauldrons

Week 3 is all about decorating (and making) Books, Coffins and Cauldrons. As Laura says in her intro, You don’t need to be experienced in bookbinding to make the simple and fun books I’ll be demonstrating. I’ll show you how to create accordion fold books, a book that opens up to reveal a miniature apothecary, a book made from matchboxes and more. All the pieces are designed to fit inside the apothecary (of course you can put them on top or use them as general decor around the apothecary).

Read more on Laura's blog or start with the project introduction.
