    A Beautiful Bee Reliquary

Filed under Art Projects, Collage Sheets, Featured Artwork, Giveaways, Newsletters, Nichola Battilana, Sale, Teri Calia

We have an amazing project for you today from Design Team Member Nichola Battilana using an Arch Top Reliquary!

Nichola has created a reliquary that any mom (or sister or friend) would love to receive as a gift! Of Summer & Bees Reliquary. Nichola used the Arch Top Reliquary – Triptych that comes with THREE sets of 2 pieces (2 laser-cut chipboard pieces — a solid back and a matching front but the front has a window cut out). Use them separately or hinge them together (with paper tape, metal hinges, etc.) to make into one wider group.

If you love the images on Nichola’s reliquary, guess what? She has created a new Blushing Ladies Collage Sheet that is full of beautiful women that includes the images she used. Also worth noting: Nichola used the new Honeycomb & Bees Die-Cut Chipboard Set, new Faux Metal Number Plates and that luscious, Giant Bronze Bee Charm.

View the Of Summer & Bees Reliquary Supply List, then buzz yourself on over to Pixie Hill because Nichola has a great video tutorial for you!

    12. Tristan Robin Blakeman Says:

Oh, such a Sophie’s Choice – they’re both absolutely stunning. However, purely from a personal subjective perspective, I’m going to choose Terri’s Virgin Mary shrine house. Growing up, although we did receive a BIT of religious instruction, we didn’t have religious icons around the house – so I’m just starting to get interested in them and find them exotic and powerful and beautiful – plus, of course, the wonderful, wonderful back detail she chose to include on her shrine really sets it apart. It completely intrigues me.
So – I’d love the opportunity to win all those goodies – I know I’d have to buy some more items to create the Virgin shrine I have in my head – but it would be at terrific start! Thanks for the opportunity!

    13. Jeanne Kelly Says:

Beautiful project! I love the triptych because it makes me think of generations of beautiful mothers. I am blessed to have a wonderful Mother and this would be a fantastic project to make with my own photos!

including the teeny mushrooms would make a beautiful and whimsical fairy kingdom display

    39. Kathleen Says:

Well, I love the partial honeycombs – they add a touch of mystery. Were the women bee keepers? I also like the shrine to the Holy Mother, though I would substitute the Divine Feminine in it. Either or both would go great in my shrine in my bedroom!

    40. Nancy S Says:

I absolutely love the arch reliquary. I’ve got my grandmother’s wedding photo that I think would look lovely in the venue. Thanks for the wonderful ideas as always! Such incredibly gifted and talented people.

    41. Karen Says:

I am definitely impressed with the honeycombs and bees. I really like the hairstyles of the ladies in the frames, and all the little touches (like what looks like honey in some of the honeycomb “chambers”) and all the antiquing. This would be a real treat to win and hope to be the one “randomly” chosen. Thank you in advance.

Bees and mushrooms and shrines, oh my! Everything in this giveaway has many possibilities!

    44. Susan M. L. Says:

Beautiful artwork! Such a wonderful tribute to bees, and the Holy Mother shrine is just so lovely–a great “indoor garden” piece to place in front of a mirror so that you could see the finished back side of the shrine. Hard to choose, but I like the arch shape best.

    45. Mary Mac Says:

Just love the shrines with this great giveaway.

    46. MaggieM Says:

I love the reliquary Of Summer & Bees….I love the Archtop Triptych Reliquary because as three pieces together it will stand easier for display AND I get to decorate THREE arches!! Thank you for this wonderful giveaway.

    47. Lorna E. Says:

Both of the projects are lovely but Teri’s shrine to the Holy Mother is my favourite. I love the colours and images in the papers she used and the floral touches give it added dimension. But-if I were picking one of the reliquary kits I’d go with the arch top. Love the gothic style.

    48. Gigi Jordan Says:

This is a special giveaway for Mother’s Day! My favorite part of the giveaway has to be the flowers. The pansies are lovely and very real looking.

    49. Luanne Says:

I like the detail in the castle top reliquary.

    50. Dennis Lawrence Says:

The arch shape is my favorite because of the Gothic styling. Fabulous artwork by very talented artists! Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms!

    51. Carmen Willis Says:

I love both Nichola and Teri’s projects’ however being a devout Christian, I adore the Shrine to the Blessed Mother Mary. It’s just beautiful and love the Sacred Heart.I would love to make both the these projects for my home. My favorite reliquary is the Castle Towers Reliquary.

    52. Traci Says:

I like them both they are both beautiful but Teri’s is my favorite. I am a religious person so of course the Virgin Mary would appeal to me the most. I also love how it is made -so pretty.

    53. Jen Says:

I love the triptych; the color that pools a bit in the honeycomb border is lovely.

    54. Char-D Says:

I love shrines and both are fabulous, but I would have to say that I like the Petite Tea-stained Black & Cream Pansies and Leaves that Teri used. They look like they belong there.

    55. Karen N Says:

The Shrine to the Holy Mother is my favorite. Why? Because it is Mother’s Day and because of the detail and huge variety of elelments used to make it! Fabulous!

    56. Lou Anne H. Says:

I absolutely love Teri’s Shrine to the Holy Mother. The whole thing is beautiful but the greenery first caught my attention because I enjoy putting natural elements in my artwork.

    57. Angela H. Says:

      It’s the bees knees!

    58. Lana Says:

Love the Victorian images, I could have so much fun creating with the goodies in this giveaway, please pick me.

    59. Megan Warren Says:

I love the tryptic reliquary, I could have so much fun creating so many things with that.

I love Of Summer & Bees Reliquary. I am very interested in bees and concerned about their numbers dwindling. Without bees we would have no food! I particularly love the bee charms.

    64. Marilyn Fishwick Says:

I love, love, love Of Summer and Bees. The use of the honeycomb die cut with “honey” smeared on it, is brilliant. Also love the ladies’ images used. And that triptych arch is perfection as a base for it all.

    65. Karen Mallory Says:

Fabulous giveaway! I loved the back of the Holy Mother shrine with the hand holding the heart!

    66. Stefanie Says:

OMG – I just love these reliquaries!! They are amazing!!

    67. Ginette Says:

“Of summer and bees” is my favorite. I love the distress look of it

    68. Lori D. Says:

I just adore it all and am particularly fond of the tiny mushrooms! Maybe because they stand out. Maybe because I love all things in miniature. Maybe because they’re cute. Either way, thank you for the chance to win.

    69. yvette leblanc Says:

      lovely!

    70. Gilda Says:

Of Summer and Bees – Love it. Thanks for the great giveaway.

    71. angelic Says:

I like the shrine to the holy mother, because I like how she used the acrylic paint to make it like a real metal arch and ceramic heart.

    72. Lori Guerin Says:

Thet’re both wonderful but my heart goes to “Of Summer and Bees.” I’ve always loved bees! And Nicola’s artwork is stunning!

    73. Janet Turner Says:

How much fun would this be to win? I love it.

    74. Lina Says:

      So beautiful!

    75. Miss Iowa Says:

I love the sheet music in the background, and how it’s been somewhat obscured with paint or ink. And then the bits of honeycomb die-cuts. Beautiful layering!

    76. Nancy Lorenz Says:

I am so in love with the reliquaries idea, I have started collecting supplies so that I can do several as gifts!! They are so awesome and so many companies out there have so many new supplies that can be used to create these wonderful works of art!! I ordered a bunch today, but still need more supplies and will continue till I get what I need! Until then I will start putting things together to make these!! My husband thinks I’ve gone mad with this new addiction!!! Of the two Reliquaries you posted today, both of which are so awesome, you really want me to choose?? Really?? Both are so awesome and both artist need to be given a Thatta Girl many times over, it really is hard to choose!! I love each of them for different reasons, hmmm. . . .i guess since I’m a Chaplain, I will choose The Shrine of the a holy Mother because it stands for something I believe in in my heart. Though, the art Of
Summer and Bees is so lovely and appropriate in its colors and technique and I love it as well! Did I get around the issue of choosing well???LOL. Thank you for sharing here awesome pieces and also thank you for the opportunity to win some awesomeness of which I never ever have enough!!!

    77. Sokat Says:

The shrine of the Holy Mother is my favorite, reminds me of the shrines in a small village or a grotto. Well done

    78. Lisa Mills Says:

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone! The both of these are very nice, & I know I have to pick one. So…I think I’ll try the Summer of Bees. Since I saw so many in my garden the other day! Thanks a bunch! Lisa

    79. phoebe diamond Says:

Love the Of Summer and Bees reliquary. The subtle colors and tryptic aspect are just great.

    80. Doreen aka LuniLadi Says:

Wow, tough choice! I really like the look of the Arch Top reliquary….but….I love that little Shrine to the Holy Mother. Aside from it’s clean and simple lines, there’s more room to collage or work a assemblage. I think I have to go with the Shrine to the Holy Mother.
      Doreen aka LuniLadi

    81. Jan Ostridge Says:

Oh, its the BEES for me. I have been searching high and low for bee stuff. Seems it is hard to find, especially paper. This will get me started. Thanks for the bee theme.

    82. orianna Says:

I can think of all sorts of applications for the honeycomb die cuts.

    83. Ruth Anna Says:

It’s almost impossible for me to pick. I love both of them. I can see making a triptych with photos of my mother, my daughter, and me as a present for my daughter. I’d also love to make another shrine for my favorite saint, Rita, who cares for impossible causes (like me).

    84. Carol Slowik Says:

My favorite thing on Nicola’s “Of summer and bees” would have to be the honeycomb and bees chipboard. It just adds the perfect touch to the reliquary. Teri’s “Shrine to the Holy Mother” is soooo beautiful and my favorite part would have to be the Sacred Heart on the back. This piece reminds me of my childhood and the May-Crowning of Mary. Love both!

    85. Kim Lucak Says:

Bees, flowers and summer, love it!!!

    86. Dawn Says:

I really like the reliquary with the bees. It reminds me of summer. I would like to create something similar with the honeycomb chipboard.

    87. Laura K Says:

Wow, those are both *gorgeous*, and shrines are one of my favorite mixed media projects! Hard to pick my favorite thing out of both of these lovely pieces, but if I have to choose, I would say my favorite part of the two reliquaries is the combination of the colors of the Sacred Heart on the back of the Shrine to the Holy Mother juxtaposed with the color and textural aged look of the patina enhanced Castle Towers Reliquary framing the Sacred Heart. The green patina sets off the red and gold of the Flaming Heart just perfectly!
Thank you to both Teri and Nichola for these great reliquaries!!!
Bees are another favorite of mine, and the Honeycomb element up against the trim at the top of the Arch Top Reliquary is another favorite part of these two projects! Lovely work on the Distress aspect of the Bees Triptych :-)

    88. Tammy Says:

      love to win

    89. Stacia Says:

It is the inclusion of the hallucinogenic mushrooms in the Shrine to the Holly Mother that does it for me!

    90. Helen P. Says:

Oh I love the vintage velvet flowers. They would go with just about any project. And who doesn’t love flowers! I would love to win this giveaway!

    91. Brenda Lubrant Says:

I love the shrine to the Holy Mother and would love to duplicate it for a dear church friend of mine.

    92. Debra Gibson Says:

I would so love to win this one!!! Thanks for the chance to win !!

    93. Kristie Norman Says:

Summer of the Bees is my favorite. My husband is a bee keeper. What a perfect kit to show my support for his bees!!!!

    94. Cathy smith Says:

I like the bees, too. But it was close! I love it all!

    95. Pat Houck Says:

I love both but the Bees reliquary has very Gothic style, which I love.

    96. Jackie Barth Says:

Can’t choose, love it all! Hope to win.

    97. Michelle Says:

The top reliquary has a lot of good stuff going on. The beehive, sticky honey is beautifully done and the butterflies give nice dimension without being too showy. There really is a lot of good stuff going on there.

Are the number plates involved in this giveaway? If not, it’s ok to take me out of the mix in terms of playing to win; I think there are others who can relate better to this group of items. I just wanted to comment on that first piece of work. It stands out, even among the work typically displayed here. There’s something about it that is really polished and has some sophistication. I appreciate what the artist did.

    98. Sue C Says:

I love them both – but to pick which one I like the best, would have to be the arched shrines. I love the gothic look and feel. Bees, honeycombs, I love it all! I do love the Holy Mother shrine too…if she were in the arched shrine…well, hands down. Thank you for a chance to win some fun and great products from you! (pick me, pick me, :-))

    99. Cindy Leaf Says:

I loved the honeycomb and how small patterns of honey comb added to each photo, it added more dimension to the entire piece instead of just photos,I also liked the way she positioned the photos. In the second I love the heart she used on thae backside and the color used on the hear and I have always had a soft spot for velvet flowers.

    100. Christi Conley Says:

Oh I LOVE the Castle Towers Tryptich is my favorite product but Teri’s Shrine is my fav project – so colorful and detailed!!

    101. Christine V Says:

Gosh, just a killer question! I love the shape of the first triptych. On the second one I like the perfect fitting of the diamond pattern paper to the front edges + the flowers surrounding Mary. But my favorite part is on the 2nd triptych where the embellished “reliquary” piece can be painted however an artist chooses to do so. Freedom of imagination with those embellishments.

    102. Roxanne Says:

While Both of these projects are beautiful..I believe the Holy Mother shrine is my fav. I love the heart and hand and the colors used. But mostly I pick this because it reminds me of my mother and her home. There was always a Mother Mary shrine statue in the garden, and my grandmother had one in her front yard. A cherished memory of two homes now long gone.

    103. Judith A.Koren Shanahan Says:

What a hard choice to make! The bee project is so relevant to today’s eco system, and the blushing beauties have faces to swoon over and would fit into so many collages of Victoriana. I would love to experiment with both and make them my own.

    104. April Dudko Says:

I love the back of the Holy Mother shrine, it shows that she is the Mother of nature as well as the Mother of us, and the way the elements are combined – so lovely!

    105. LeAnn Says:

Summer of the bees. I love the vintage look of it. They are both beautiful.

    106. Karen Kinoshita Says:

      You’re the bees knees!

    107. Leanna Says:

My favorite is the Blushing Bees. I love the way the ladies look against the background and I love the bee at the top!

    108. Jennie Says:

I love the honeycomb diecuts used by Nichola, especially with her use of wax! The effect is a perfect blend of nature and art.

    109. robin dudleyhowes Says:

I LOVE everything especially the shrine box, reliquary and vintage photos. I would use the new reliquary hearts in the shrines similar to the sample!

    110. Lisa Riel Abate Says:

Bees are a miracle of nature. They pollinate our plants which helps the balance of our ecosystem, they are the only insects which can create food (honey) for humans. Symbolically they represent fertility, community, work ethic/teamwork, and aerodynamically they should not fly, but they do – to me this represents that anything is possible. This beautiful reliquary pays homage to bees and is a perfect example of art & nature combined!

    111. Jackie P Neal Says:

Both projects are outstanding, but I choose Nichola’s as I have a long lived love affair with bees- I don’t know why, I just do!

    112. Laura Says:

No question the Bees have my vote. Love the color of honey and bees. Reminds me of spring and the bees that grace my flower garden.

    113. Sara H. Says:

I like the Of Summer and Bees. I love the vintage photographs and the bee theme in general. Very cool idea.

    114. Evleta Gruber Says:

I really like the Summer of the Bees Reliquary. But the Shrine to the Virgin Mary is really cool too.
