Postcards from the Past – Faux Postcards with Holder
by Design Team Member Laura Carson

This project started with a cool new paper set, that both Laura and I fell in love with: Gentleman’s Emporium 6×6 Paper Pad. Stylish Victorian papers… not steampunk per se. From bicycle ads to pocket watches, pipes and playing cards.

Laura made faux vintage postcards and a beautiful embellished box to hold them (and there’s a tutorial on making the box)! All that ornate trim around the edges is from a silicone mold, so easy to replicate (and see below for a close-up of the pretty box trim).

Here’s a bit from Laura’s blog post, about the postcards themselves:

For the front of the postcards, I used images of vintage postcards (you will find them in my blog post and can download them FREE for your own use.)

Before I printed the postcard images, I added an address and message. I mounted the images on a thin piece of chipboard to make them sturdier.

[Note that Laura had fun with these addresses, like the first card is from Sherlock Holmes (who is in Argentina on the trail of his nemesis Professor Moriarty) to his sidekick Dr. Watson.]

I covered the backside with paper from the Gentlemen’s Emporium 6×6 Paper Pad.

Next, I collaged images from the new Dapper Fellows Collage Sheet and two new image sets (Vintage People and Remnants of the Past) plus two other collage sheets: Rose Garden and Paris Postcards. I also cut out detailed images from the paper pad.

Lastly, I inked the edges of the cards with Vintage Photo Distressed Ink.

There are lots more photos and instructions (including those free postcard images), so get on over to Laura’s blog post! Here’s a link to her supply list, too. And check below for photos from her supplies plus related new items.
