Mirror-Aging Tutorial by Caroline Ouzts Hay

Note: most of the links on this post no longer work, as we moved to a new Web site in 2018. But you can try searching on the same names (as links below) on the new site.

Mirrors are very mysterious, sometimes frightening and yet quite magical things, are they not, my Poppets? Very old ones always seem to have a story to tell. They can play tricks on your eyes, bouncing the glare here and there. You may think you’re the most gorgeous thing in the world and then walk by a mirror and whoa! Freak yourself out when you realize that the person who surely must scare small children with her looks staring back at you…is you!

The very talented Caroline Ouzts-Hay has created a tutorial to age mirrors that is so easy! You only need a few supplies and then you’ll have a mirror that looks as if it has been hidden away in your great-grandma’s attic. (With Halloween coming up, that can be a very good thing for your diabolical creations!)

And Caroline has created a piece called Mirror, Mirror with fun reversals of images (and a double-sided mirror in the center of the book). Kind of like Alice falling down the rabbit hole (or a fun-house mirror), the images on the front half and the back half of her book aren’t exactly mirror images of each other.

Here’s a sneak peak of supplies you’ll need to re-create Caroline’s book:
