Swap art posted & prize winner (+ Fun Art & Tutorial by Shannon Cooper)

Filed under Contests/Winners, Giveaways, Halloween Clocks Kit, Newsletters, Shannon Cooper, Tutorials

Congratulations to Christine Diller, winner of the "Best in Show" prize ($100 of Art Supplies) for the Chipboard Reliquaries Swap!

I love how much texture is on Christine’s pieces… and to think they’re only flat chipboard as the base!

See a larger photo of Christine Diller's artwork shown at right and/or see all of the swap art Christine submitted.

And view more artwork by all participants in the Gallery!

It only seems fitting that the week before Halloween is filled with orange and black artwork. FUN orange and black artwork! And a tutorial by Design Team Member Shannon Cooper on creating fun to make (and fun to play with) Halloween Clock Spinners!

Shannon obviously had a blast playing around with the different combinations on the Halloween Clock Spinners Collage Sheet. From the little door that opens to show the devil (an articulated, poseable devil — from the Halloween Jumping Jacks Collage Sheet) at far right, to the photo below showing options for spinning the witch (who is atop the photo at right) to 2 options of spinning moons.

The Halloween Clock Spinners Collage Sheet (oh how I love thee!) has lots of images that will work with the grandfather clock and I had a frightfully good time changing out the rotating part. So fun!

Note: that chipboard grandfather clock Shannon is referring to (artfully painted to look vintage — covered in Shannon’s tutorial) is available in a chipboard set and also as part of the Halloween Clocks Kit. AND since today’s Giveaway includes EVERYTHING in Shannon’s supply list, the winner will have 2 grandfather clocks to decorate!

And Shannon went on to make ANOTHER clock (see below), this time with a door she wrote on as part of a shadowbox!

While I was feeling all vintage Hallowe’enie, I kept on crafting and assembled a little shadowbox to hang on the wall.

I used wool roving for the wind, shaping it with my hands and then covering the wispy pieces with a glue/water mixture, then letting it dry. The leaves were punched from really nice crepe paper!

Five little pumpkins, sitting on a gate.
The first one says, “Oh my it’s getting late.”
The second one says, “There’s witches in the air.”
The third one says, “But we don’t care!”
The fourth one says, “Let’s run and run and run!”
The fifth one says, “Let’s have some fun!”
Then oooooo went the wind and OUT went the light!
Five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Read more of Shannon’s fun in her blog post. And be sure to come back to enter today’s Giveaway!)

I would continue making my altered books and bottles for Halloween. I have been making altered books and bottles for about 3 weeks. Having lots of fun. Using a lot of mini things to make the shelves inside the books. All sorts of things to make my bottles look really cool.

    2. Tristan Robin Blakeman Says:

The swap art is so all so wonderful – and the winning artist has created some marvelous pieces! I think she needs to consider some tutorials in the very near future!

Dressing up for Halloween… sort of. Depending on the weather I may be the queen of ravens. If it’s rainy I won’t.

    6. Jean Marmo Says:

Love the pumpkins on the fence! Too cute! Love those borders. I think I would go back and do a scrapbook layout of some of our favorite halloween photos!

    7. Kathlene Ford-Walters Says:

I made a mummy and a cemetery piece, so I think I would add this to create a more complex cemetery scene. Unfortunately, where I live (which is rural) all the Halloween activities are done in the malls or churches. So I won’t be dressing up.

    8. Emily Ann Dale Says:

I’ll put on my witches hat for the trick or treaters. I’d love to make the orange clock.

    9. Michelle Says:

I will be dressing up as the Corpse Bride and going with my beautiful little grandaughters to Cinderellas castle to trick or treat. So excited!

    10. Deborah Taylor Says:

I have just started crafting and I am currently working on an altered album, a halloween miniature village scene, we do not celebrate halloween in the same way as you do in USA, but if I was to dress up it would probably be a witch, but a good witch. I would love to win the competition as I do not have a big budget for purchasing embellishment etc to work with.

    11. Jen R Says:

Still unsure if I will dress up this year. Love the clocks though and the wisps of roving are a great addition.

    15. barb macaskill Says:

My 4 year old granddaughter and I are dressing up as Butterfly Fairies! She couldn’t decide between the two so we combined them. Then, she looked at me with her beautiful blue eyes and asked me to dress up too so that she could be the baby butterfly fairy and I could be the Meemaw butterfly fairy! How could I say no? She has me wrapped around her little finger!! LOL

And to my fellow swappers…you rock!

    17. Carla Says:

I’ll be wearing my Lularoe Halloween leggings all day! We have a neighborhood party at our house before trick or treating starts and feed all the ghosts and goblins hot dogs so they are fueled up for an evening of ringing doorbells!
I would make the projects pretty much as shown…..I love Halloween!

This ephemera was the way I found Alpha Stamps years ago and one of the biggest reasons I love them. They have neat stuff I do not see anywhere else. I love the black and orange give away LOL great idea!

    30. Christi Conley Says:

I’m dressing up as a cat – should be easy since my four cats shed all over everything :)

I have been making villages. Like those little putz houses from yonder years. I would add an orange and back and white building…a bakery. And of course I will dress up! The clock piece was really cute. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to add one more project to my list but I’m afraid I still have 3 unfinished pieces that don’t look like they will be completed on time! Funny cause I was ready for Halloween at Easter this year!!
I dress up each year as a witch of some kind of another and take about a dozen kids trick or treating my neighborhood goes all out and has many kids every year.
