Apothecary Book Tutorial by Laura Carson!

Filed under Art Projects, Back in Stock, Bella's Corner, Featured Artwork, Halloween, Laura Carson, Tim Holtz

Miz Bella here. I’m taking over this newsletter!

Oooooooh lovies. The Mistress of Artistic Madness, Miz Laura Carson has created a most spectacular Hocus Pocus Inspired Book Apothecary.

Instead of a book of spells, as in the movie Hocus Pocus, Laura’s book when opened up is an apothecary! You all know by now that I just adore apothecaries. Especially since I have quite a collection of items and “special” potions to fill an apothecary up with but let’s not start digressing so quickly!

How awesome is the cover of the book? I love all of that texture, patina and of course, the eyeball looking out at you. Speaking of eyeballs, take a look a the side of the book. Laura used the Antique Bronze Pendant Setting with Claws and the 16mm Flat Back Eyeball Cabochons to keep the book closed. Don’t you think the book looks as if it was just found after a couple hundred of years lying in the attic of a centuries old house?

To make the actual “book” Laura used two Tim Holtz Mini Configuration Books and hinged them together with the Large Butterfly Hinges – Brass. The old writing on the outside of the book is actually Creative Paper Clay that Laura stamped with The Raven Background Cling Stamp!

Open up the book and wow. Specimens inside of Domed Apothecary Bottles, Antique Bronze 3D Skeleton Hand Charm, Pumpkin Pods, and oodles of Glass Bottles too numerous to name individually. So much fun to be had!

(And since most of those goodies are all Halloween-themed, they’re ALL On Sale! for the nearing-its-end Halloween Sale!)

I just know that you want your very own Hocus Pocus Inspired Book Apothecary. It’s a good thing that you do because Laura has created a video tutorial for you! You can find a list of supplies that Laura used and the video tutorial on Laura’s blog.

AND, check out today’s Giveaway (below) that includes a ton of goodies from Laura’s project plus a big bunch of items just added to the Clearance Sale!

Plus, don’t forget there’s still a FREE Gift kit available: Spider ATCs  — and don’t fret, I happen to know that if you ask sweetly (in a note on your order) Leslie will sub a Witch ATC Kit if you’re afraid of spiders. (But really, scared?… that spider trying to speak to Miss Muffet, at left, is waving a top hat!)
