A Witch’s Cottage (and more dollhouse miniatures)!

Update! A newer post about Shannon’s artwork is here.

Revised: Those bottles from the (sadly, now sold out) gift collage sheet have shown up on the new Spell Book Box Extras Collage Sheet!

Before Miz Bella tells you about Shannon’s amazing artwork, The Bottoms Up Collage Sheet announced in last Thursday’s newsletter is still on offer! (FREE for all orders, regardless of order size!) More info and photos

Design Team Member Shannon Cooper has been busy brewing up a project to amaze and bedazzle you with, the Witch’s Cottage!

If you love miniatures (and even if you don’t) you’re going to flip over the Witch’s Cottage. It’s one of those creations that has so many fun things going on within it that every time you look at it, you find something new that you hadn’t noticed before. (So much so that there’s a grid of highlight photos below — and today’s Giveaway is inspired by just one corner from Shannon’s artwork!)

The cottage was inspired by the Magic Potions Kit, and in Shannon’s own words she “went a bit batty” with her project. Which just goes to show that she’s definitely on the right Design Team, because we’re all a bit batty around here.

“It began with the idea of making a teeny potions shelf out of the Small Hinged Tins. It’s only 2.5″ x 2.5″, which makes it the perfect size for all of the bottles in the kit. The lid of the tin was removed and I left the hinges pulled out so I could hang a Pentagram Charm and key from the bottom. Alcohol Inks were used to color the edges, and then the rest was covered in paper from the Tiny Vintage Scrapbook Collage Sheet. The little shelf is simply a piece of painted balsa wood. Some of the bottles were made with Potion Bottles Bead Mix that are also in the kit, and I used the most microscopic labels from the Secret Spell Book Parts One Collage Sheet. Sharpies were used to color in the liquid inside the bottles, and I also colored some of the lids.

“After completing my wee potions cabinet, I walked around the house with it in hand trying to find a place to hang it, and eventually came to my senses and realized this thing needs a witch’s cottage to go around it. Duh. [Skipping ahead a bit…] On to decorating this pad! I found the Rocking Chair and Wooden Fire Place at Alpha Stamps and the hutch has been in the stash. Balsa was used to make the table and ratty picture frame. Don’t you just love that lantern in the corner? What ambiance!”

While Shannon used a hutch and table from her stash, we have a Mini Oak Hutch and an Unfinished Wood Table that would work out just fine. Yes I know, I’m such an enabler! Speaking of enabling, I am going to have to enable myself to get some of the new items that Shannon used in her Witch’s Cottage, just don’t tell Slim Daddy! Such as the SUPER adorable Mini Mason Jars, the Set of Mini Wooden Buckets, Tiny Wooden Bowls, teeny Tiny Wooden Flower Pots, and my favorite, the Mini Black Cauldron.

Something else to point out that is a must have if you like to create miniatures (or if you live in earthquake country or have obnoxious cats) is Museum Wax Anchoring Putty. This stuff saves the Evil Queen’s ceramic sculptures from toppling off shelves during California rumblings and it also secures dollhouse props in place. You’ll only need to use a tiny bit for the dollhouse props, and the items can still be rearranged (although I’d rearrange fairly soon, as the wax does harden with time).

You’ll want to check out Shannon’s supply list before you check out the Witch’s Cottage in greater detail at her blog. Be sure to look for the jar of eyeballs that Shannon made and also she will tell you how she created the walls for the cottage!

Hooray for the Witch’s Cottage Fireplace Giveaway!

With all of those lovely options that Shannon used in her Witch’s Cottage it was hard to decide what to focus on… but I picked the fireplace (and a bit to the left):
Miniature Wooden Fire Place
Mini Black Cauldron (New!)
Set of Mini Wooden Buckets
Small Ceramic Horned Owl Bead
18x13mm Oval Filigree Setting (and how clever… Shannon just bent back the bottom of the filigree to turn it into a picture frame)
Tiny Glass Jar with Lid (I love those eyeballs Shannon made to fill the jar!)

To enter the Witch’s Cottage Fireplace Giveaway drawing all you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post TODAY or TOMORROW (the deadline is 11:59 pm PST, Monday Night, July 27, 2015. AND tell me what part of Shannon’s artwork you find most inspiring (and/or that you plan on attempting in a project of your own).

Don’t forget to leave your (hello! correct) email address, too, so I can contact the winner; your email address does not need to be made public. Note: I’m offering free shipping, too, but only within the USA. International shipping will still apply.

Hey, who won the Bottoms Up Bottles Giveaway? That would be Kathleen! (And she commented: “Beads are little pieces of the color wheel in the sky, that have broken off and are visiting our world. I’ve used them as little teeny bottle caps, I’ve used them as weights, I’ve used them in dollhouse miniatures, I’ve used them on pins, I sew them on quilts and jackets to make pictures, I have used them as bookmarks – I’ve never eaten them, but my dog has! (By the way, I love the Gypsy Spell Book stuff – ANYTHING to do with magic or Halloween….that’s my thing!)“) Please check your email for my message about getting your mailing address.
