Tiny Haunted House, with Tombstone Tutorial

Filed under Art Projects, Back in Stock, Giveaways, Halloween, Kristin Batsel, Newsletters, Tutorials

Design Team Member Kristin Batsel really adores Halloween… beside the extra Halloween projects she always volunteers for… her Halloween artwork is perfect!

Case in point: today’s Tiny 3D Haunted House. First of all, it’s made from the new Tealight Haunted House Kit with Base (related to one of the house shapes from the Mini Haunted House Covers)… you can see a mini photo at left (and that’s the back view… it has a big arch cut in the back facade to help with inserting a Tea Light).

And just look at the pics below of the front side!! Kristin decided to paper over one of the 3 rectangular windows cut in the front so she could make a door (and I love that little “cobblestone” path through the grass to her door)!

And look at all the parts you get in this new kit: it includes the platform and the fence pieces and the little tombstones! (Note: there’s a close-up of the tombstones below in the Giveaway; AND Kristin added a tutorial on how to paint the flat chipboard tombstones to give them a 3D appearance in her blog post!) Here’s a couple tips from that blog post:

The “stone” path in the front is cut from a cardboard egg carton. It’s got the perfect texture for pavers.

The windows in this little house are actually thin sheets of mica. Here in the front windows, I put the image of the child behind the mica, so it looks like she’s inside. The pumpkin is in front of the mica so it looks like it’s outside, sitting on the windowsill.

I used mica in the window because the house is designed to accommodate a tea light. When it’s dark, you can light it up and it looks so spooky!

Here’s the rest of Kristin’s supply list, and more highlights from it are noted below in today’s Giveaway.

And don’t forget Kristin’s blog post with tutorial!

You know, seeing Kristin’s Haunted House all lit up made me think of the Holly Jolly Christmas House she made a coupla years ago with the House Ornament (see the photos at right).

Which, of course, got me thinking about Christmas papers (especially tiny Christmas papers). So I’m announcing a new Christmas paper set today that would work out really well on a tiny house:
    - Carta Bella Christmas 6×6 Paper Pad (I love the classic colors and this would be so cute on a tiny house!), and there’s also the related:
    - Carta Bella Christmas 12×12 Collection Kit (which also includes a die-cut 12″ x 12″ sticker sheet)

I’m also announcing a cute Christmas twill tape:
    - Christmas Stockings Printed Twill Tape (see below for a photo)

And, speaking of lights, the Tim Holtz Mini Lantern with Battery Packs are back in stock (finally)!

    New Goodies!

Hooray for the Tealight Haunted House Giveaway!

I had to show a close up of the tombstones in the yard (and a closer look at those mica windows, too)… And scroll down just a bit to see just one of the pics from Kristin’s tombstone tutorial!

Here’s a bit more quoted from Kristin’s witty blog post:
Tombstones litter the front yard. The kit comes with four; I chose to use three. Buried in the front yard are “Al B. Bach” and “Ima Goner”. Sadly, no one knows who lies beneath the cross.

The tree is made from a branch of an azalea bush. Perfect! I punched a little hole in the base and just fed the bottom of the branch in. The crow sitting in that tree used to be a bluejay. I filed down the tuft on his head and painted him black. He prefers life as a crow.

So on to this Giveaway: I’ve picked out a few choice morsels from Kristin’s supply list:
    - Window Frames for Tealight Haunted House (I know… I haven’t even mentioned the window trims yet! These are made to fit the Tealight Haunted House: the window frames are small enough so that they fit on the (somewhat) crowded facade without running into each other.)
    - Black Baroque Dresden Borders (they’re around the base of the platform)
    - New Mica Tiles (so you can play with backlit windows, as I’m also including an LED Tea Light)
    - How Sweet the Moon and Mini Halloween Banner Collage Sheets
    - An 18mm Black Cat Glass Cabochon (the size in the window above the door)
    - Pumpkin Pods (near the front door)
    - The Tealight Haunted House Kit with Base itself!

Just click on this Supply List link for photos and links to everything in Kristin’s artwork (though “just” those listed above are included in the Giveaway).

To enter the Tealight Haunted House Giveaway drawing all you have to do is leave a comment BELOW on this blog post TODAY or TOMORROW (the deadline is 11:59 pm PST, Monday Night, October 8, 2018).

    4. BarbMac Vt Says:

The little pumpkins, cute walkway, bit in the tree, spooky picket fence and the Mica windows are all favorites to me!
If I had one of these to decorate I would probably do piles of leaves with ghosts peeking out, maybe a hand or foot coming out of the “graves” and definitely Mica windows.
Winning this would make my life complete (at least till the next awesome giveaway)! Fingers crossed 🤞 and TFS!
