Memories of Mom by Design Team Member Susan Yee

As this is the first project by Susan, let’s start with a bit from her bio:

Art is for everyone, I learned by experimenting with mediums and techniques. So to inspire others, I share my work by teaching. Once or twice a month after work, I teach mixed media art classes to my co-workers. I have been very fortunate that the company I work for allows me the space to do so. Although I have never had any formal training in art, I am constantly inspired by my family, friends, and co-workers.

Welcome aboard, Susan! Now moving on to a preview of her Memories of Mom collage (a close-up shown below on the left, plus a photo of the Spring Farmhouse Simple Things Scrapbook Paper top right, and a photo from her tutorial showing how she used the window frame image from that paper with a photograph).

I love how Susan built up texture in her collage, like adhering tissue napkins (the large floral black and white images in the background). You can see step-by-step photos in Susan’s blog post.

New & Back in Stock Goodies! (Love those new Alice in Wonderland stamps!)

So many new things to mention today, they’re not all covered in the previews below! Click here to see them all… or keep reading as 4 more are highlighted in related artwork below!

Dum and Dee, the Tweedles by Kristin Batsel

Scroll down just a bit for a fun, bright Alice tin & little book (both featuring the Tweedles). Here’s a bit of an intro from Kristin’s blog post:

This month at Alpha Stamps, it’s all about Alice. My favorite characters from Alice in Wonderland happen to be the Tweedles, both Dum and Dee. Guess who got star billing on the two works I did this month?

First, I made an altered tin. I removed the lid before covering the outside with polka dotted paper, and the inside with a beautiful background image from a collage sheet. The outside mushrooms are a chipboard insert. I used colored pencils and Copic markers to paint the mushrooms to match the background. I wanted the largest two mushrooms to extend outside the boundaries of the chipboard, so I painted those two tops separately and then attached the new caps. The white spots on the were added with Gesso.

Butterflies were folded and glued down the center to make them appear as if they just landed on the edges of the tin. How perfect is that teapot on top? It’s the perfect topper! It really made the piece come together. [Aside: that teapot is back in stock and part of today’s FLASH SALE!]

There’s so much more to see on Kristin’s blog post (like that adorable book box, with a tiny cover showing the Tweedles). Here’s her supply list (for both projects).
